Who lives in the alleyway? Is it the cats? Is it the beggars? The only way we can truly know is to go in there, venture in and find out. It might be more than we bargained for. You know there aren’t really any alleys in New York City? You’d really have to do a thorough search to go find them. Yeah, idk. I have a headache right now but i’m still writing, still chipping away, still listening to Fats Domino, and being a number one playa typa guy. Ok, today was like Powerhouse Trinity Thursday or something, I can’t remember what Tyler said. Something to describe the things. Yeah so AP Lang exam was today and it was mad chill and dare I say very fun and I may have wrote the best essay of my life. Then I went to the Whitman Drama banquet which was a great way to cap off the year. I’m excited for what’s next. I’m also excited for you to read the rest of the newsletter that I need to finish, so let’s get on with that! :)
Henry Proverb 5/23/24:
“Life never happens in order.”
At the Whitman Drama Banquet they were handing out blankets to seniors with all of the shows and then someone, actually I think Nolan, said, “I like how they’re all out of order,” referring to how the shows were not arranged in chronological order on the blanket and I said pretty much that phrase in response and Cash was like, “ayyyy proverb???” And so, yeah that’s why it has to be the Henry Proverb today. Shoutout Cash Martin, as always. I was thinking about expanding the phrase, but i’m just going to let it be.
Quote of the Day 5/23/24:
“May what I do flow from me like a river, no forcing and no holding back, the way it is with children.” - Rainer Maria Rilke, German poet

Shoutout to Charlotte Bonneau for such a beautiful candid shot of the Whitman Drama banquet.

Ballad of the Soothsayer Pt. 8 Grape Ape Escape in the Alps of Tunisia - Nothing is As it Seems
The Soothsayer stepped forward once again, blindly following his new bear acquaintance forward through the lush foliage of Philosopher’s Forest. As they crossed a makeshift wooden bridge that passed over a small creek reservoir, the Soothsayer retreated deep into his thoughts. The two had been on the path for a decent period of time, and The Sayer could sense that they were only diving further and further into the heart of the forest. This was where the deepest Philosophizing took place in all of the forest but also in all of the known world. This was where the most profound thoughts were thunk and where the select few, the most highly philosophical and renowned thinkers of all the lands went to enter into deep states of meditation and try to transcend all of human reality, with thoughts so deep they could pierce the very fabric of the universe.
But those were just legends, there were secrets in this forest that were guarded more carefully than the ancient pirate treasure maps of yore. There were ideas to be found in this land more powerful and rich than anyone could dream of. The Sayer had been keeping this in mind, but also envisioning the sacred heart of the forest, where his great bear friend had so helpfully agreed to take him to. There was a stillness in the air around them, the sky had grown a shade darker, its bright blue color having been diluted by the misty gray of the curious clouds that frequently swirled around these areas of the forest.
As the pair made their way up to the top of a hill area, they approached a sudden change in the environment, as the trees gave way to a little clearing, where the path led straight into the mouth of a deep, dark cave. This was the cave of the black bear family. This was none other than Bog-Bout’s cave.
The great, black bear turned to face the Soothsayer. “Here we are at last,” he plainly remarked, “Before we step into my family’s ancient domain, I must impress upon you the importance of manners. You must obey the laws of the bears and you must not do anything rash. Our way of life is sacred and you must respect that. At the moment, most of my brothers slumber, but some may approach you. They all mean well, but it has been some time since a human such as yourself has stepped foot into our sacred spot. Tread carefully, Sayer.”
The Sayer thought for a moment and then spoke affirmingly, “Yes, oh great bear, I will respect your people and I will respect your world. I am but a mere tresspasser on sacred ground. As a Sayer, I understand this whole-sale. I am not as most humans. I have seen their mistakes and flaws and would not fall into the same pitfalls as they so often do.”
“Alright then,” the bear responded, “If that may be true, I will take your word for it. Please, follow me into the next step of our journey.”
The two stepped past the veil of darkness and into the cave. The silent buzzing of the forest continued in their absence.
